Nice little camera May 22, 2010 This camera is great for the price. I'm not much of a photographer, so I won't critique the quality of its photos or movies, but I'm pleased with both.
My only complaint is that the camera doesn't seem to have a battery meter. Is it fully charged? Half charged? Who knows? The only battery-life indicator you get from it is an 'empty battery' image when the thing is almost dead. I've tried searching through the menus for a way to find or turn on a battery life indicator, but it's not to be found, apparently. What this means is that if you haven't used it in a while, you better charge it before you take it anywhere to take pictures, because you might not get much use out of it before it dies, and you can't know until it starts to run down. Of course, that can be a problem when you decide to go somewhere on the spur of the moment.
Survived the hands of orphans in Africa Mar 29, 2010 Have kids? Fumble a lot? Just want an extra durable camera? Then get this one. My Kodak has been dropped countless times over and over again by kids in an orphanage who all fight over who gets to take pictures. Though it had a crack in the frame, it has not stopped working, which was quite the relief when I was first mortified and watched it drop.
The camera is just as good as any other point-and-shoot camera out there for those of us who aren't professionals or aren't extremely picky and just want a small camera to carry around. Sometimes indoor lighting doesn't work too well, but otherwise I have been extremely happy with the outcome of my pictures.
But seriously, what makes me give great reviews is the incredible durability I have found in the camera. It's been dropped all over South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe... this thing survives rock, sand, dirt, and grimy hands.
Lens focus noise is my biggest concern. Feb 01, 2010 Likes:
- Small enough to carry in pocket.
- Battery life okay but I'd suggest getting a second as backup.
- Focuses and shoots fast. (already on)
- Smart capture usually takes the best/easiest photos.
- Zoomable while recording video.
- Long video record times. 30 mins. I think.
- Hi resolution video.
Dislikes:
- Sometimes, if the battery dies while the lens is extended it gets stuck out until you can get power to it again. When that happens, I usually wait a minute for the battery to regain a little juice then quickly turn it on and off to get the lens retracted. This is a bad design flaw. My old Kodak EasyShare DX6490 4MP Digital Camera with 10X Optical Zoom was smart enough to not allow you to extend the lens without enough juice and always retracted it just before dieing.
- The lens is starting to make focusing noises after 2 months. My DX6490 did the same thing after 1+ years. You could hear the noise in recored videos.
- Takes too long to shoot from being off and takes too long to turn off.
- Switching between modes is a little slow because you have to go into the mode menu (dedicated button).
- I assumed you'd be able to select aperture & shutter priority with this camera but you cannot. You can use presets like macro and landscape to suggest what you want but it's not the level of control I was looking for.
Disclaimer: I've only owned Kodak EasyShare cameras. So I have no experience with other brands. I've liked my past Kodaks enough to continue to buy them.

Not worth it :( Jan 31, 2010 I typically love kodak and this is roughly my 5th Kodak Easy Share and I have been satisified with all of them. My last one broke after 1 1/2 years so I bought another one thinking it was a fluke. My current Easyshare M1093 did not live up to the quality I expect from Kodak. The majority of the pictures come out grainy and it does not take good pictures unless lit brightly. I switch to many different modes and none seem to help. Don't waste your money.
