Would not recommend Jan 07, 2010 Do not let my one star rating fool you. I had to rate it for the review to go through. This doesn't deserve even one star.
This was supposed to be an upgrade for my 8 year old son. I have had three digital cameras over the years, two being still in use. Each of my children have had two. In all those digital cameras this is the worst I have ever seen. My first HP nine years ago had better quality pictures.
In the highest mp the pictures are still horrendous. Using zoom only magnifies the problem. Each time you power on the camera you have to reset the flash as well as the anti- shake features. Way too much for me to remember to do, let alone my 8 year old.
The pictures are over exposed with flash, under exposed without. They are are blurry, even with anti shake on. Many picutures are just unrecongnizable as to what they are.
The store I bought it from (Office Max) won't let me return it because it was outside of 14 days of purchase. (Hello, it was a Christmas gift??) Currently I am going into 30 minutes on hold with Vivitar trying to discuss the problem with someone (anyone??) there. All I have gotten is horrible elevator music.
Frustrated doesn't even begin to sum up how I feel about this horrible camera.
I have a feeling I am going to be out another chunk of money to get my son a decent camera.

A perfect first camera for my child. Aug 25, 2009 I purchased this camera for $45.99 for my daughter's 3rd birthday after reading and experiencing several horror stories about "kid's" cameras.
It totally fits the bill. The batteries last, the review setting allows my daughter to navigate through her pictures she has taken (did I mention she is three?), and the real dealmaker is that I can upload her pictures to my Mac, which I could not do with any of the crappy software that comes with the "kid's" models. I am also pleased to find a camera not affiliated with Disney crossmarketing.
It works well and she loves it.

Not recommended Jul 11, 2009 I purchased this as a second camera, for times when our primary camera is being used elsewhere. I wasn't looking for any bells and whistles, just very simple snapshots; and my expectations were low, given the amount of money I wanted to spend.
After reading the online manual and trying dozens of test shots using the limited settings, I can honestly say I didn't get one decent photo. No shots were in good focus, distance shots with the zoom as well as close-ups were almost unidentifiable, outdoor shots were overexposed, color was inconsistent. One landscape picture I took was almost acceptable--but there's a blue halo along the left side of the photo and a purple one on the right.
I'm returning the camera for a refund.
