Brilliant product! Sep 09, 2009 Brilliant! Have purchased (and returned), other products that pretend to deliver (simulated or true) surround sound, 5.1. The Yamaha YSP is the only product to deliver. None, on the market contain the achieved, high technology, with presence that this unit delivers. It is scary to look to the extreme left or right and hear voices and see nothing there. The sound field is detailed and complexly powerful. A sub-woofer is a must have. The YSP 1100 is the best value of the series. It can be had in the $500+ range, but has the same power output as the 4000/4050. Less power is not worth the effort. Many surround sound units do not sound good with CDs. This unit does an excellent job. Very clean look. Have spent many hours playing with the manual settings. The very painless auto calibration system works just as well. Outstanding technology, well positioned as "state of the art".

Truly Amazing Surround Sound! Jun 20, 2008 I finally got around to remodeling the bedroom and did a little over and beyond the "honey do list". Since we were remodeling, my wife finally agreed to a TV in the bedroom but didn't want any wires, amps, speakers, ect. in the room to clutter up the new clean look. So I hung a flat panel with this Yamaha YSP-1100 under it. (I highly recommend the wall bracket for an application like this). The sub is hidden in an undisclosed location and yes I hid the wires. Step 1 completed.
Step 2 required me to make it work and make it easy. The auto-calibration feature was a snap. My bedroom is rectangular and the YSP-1100 sounds amazing! There's sound coming from all around the room but look honey, "no speakers". I programmed it's "My Beam" feature and so when one of us nod off, the other can still watch TV and not get the "can you turn it down" line.
Well it passed inspection from the Executive Director of the Interior aka the Mrs! Bottom line, it sounds amazing, looks cool and I highly recommend it. In fact, now my condo-livin' brother-in-law wants one and yep, it's been added to his "honey do list".

Yanaho Digital Sound Projector is a "home run" Jul 14, 2007 We wanted to add big sound to our new HD TV but didn't want to run wires under the carpeting (or hire someone to go into baseboards and walls). So, when we heard the Yamaha digital sound projector the first time we knew it was a winner. We have a big room so the big Yamaha with 40 speakers and 2 woofers was the solution. Also had to add the Yamaha sub-woofer to get the full range of sound. Easy to hook up and adjust using the instructions. This is a great solution to big sound using the projection system to bounce sound around to room. Highly recommend this product.

Great product.....if you have the right room May 15, 2007 This is a great product if you have the right room setup. The people who experience problems or only hear sound from the front of the speaker either have the wrong room type or did not set up the speaker correctly. I have a rectangular living room with a half wall for a stairway on the left and the couch against a set of windows. I knew before buying that I would not get clear rear channels, but then again I can't fit speakers back there either. Other than that it sounds great, this thing engulfs the room in sound, I hear the side channels all the way back to the wall, and everything is crisp and clear. Definitely get the recommended subwoofer. But like I said, do your research, if you don't have the proper room setup don't waste your money. The yamaha website has alot of information.

If looks are more important than surround sound... Dec 18, 2006 ....then buy this enclosure. I have it and like it, but frankly the sound dosen't seem to come from anywhere but right in front of me (no side, rear etc). However given my displeasure at looking at my old setup (5.1, sub, speaker stands, wires all over)I've got to say I don't mind.
For the money, ease of setup and the lack of clutter I'd recommend it. If you're an audiophile please pass.
